March 17, 2022 at 12:08 pm in reply to: I didn't make a Declaration of Final Departure from Brazil: 3 conclusions about the risks #7440FernandoParticipant::
Hello, Dr. Vinícius
I left Brazil at the end of 2018 to work in the United Arab Emirates and I'll be here indefinitely and I don't know if I'll return to Brazil either.
I didn't pay any attention to the fact that I did the DSD and continued to make my declarations as normal, as I have investments in Brazil.
What should I do? File an exit declaration now in 2022, or rectify the 2019 declaration? I filed declarations in 2020 and 2021.Thank you very much
Fernando
May 4th, 2022 at 12:01 am in reply to: Taxation of earnings and income from abroad: how to calculate and declare #7950FernandoParticipant::Hello Mr. Vinícius. I accidentally had the good fortune to find and read several complex questions on your site, which you answered clearly. For me it was providential because I have just sold a small property in Miami, acquired as an individual for us$ 220k, with official remittance of foreign currency, in 2011, with the exchange rate of $1.56. The sale price was us$ 405k. In addition to brokerage fees, taxes, etc. they withheld 15% on the amount (+/- us$60k) in income tax. However, I heard that Brazil has a tax agreement with the USA and they said that I can inform the Receita Federal here of the amount of tax I paid there. My question is whether this is correct or whether I'll have to pay another 15% on the capital gain in Brazil, even if I leave the money in America, since the property is listed on my tax return at the historical purchase price.
FernandoParticipant::Vinicius, good morning
The material you make available on the web is excellent!
Could you please clarify this particular situation for me?
Leaves Brazil for good on 18/01/2023
As far as I understand from your article, I will have to file the Exit Notice in February 2024 and file the Exit Tax Return in March 2024. Did I understand correctly?
I would prefer to resolve this ASAP. Can I file a tax return in March 2023? Would that be the end of the matter or would I still need to file an exit tax return? On what date?Thank you very much for your attention
